Sunset and The Brunette Boy

Chapter 1

“What are you doing up there?”

She startled by a slightly deep voice underneath her and the blonde haired girl had to  carefully balance herself while looking down at the source of the voice.

A boy with messy brunette hair and dirty face and clothes (did he just survive from a mass sand storm?) looking up at her, hands on his hips, waiting for an answer.

From up here she could tell that the boy is quite tall. Thin but still has muscles here and there. And his eyes showed curiousty.

Curiousty.

She then realized that she hadn’t answered the boy’s question yet.

She moved her gaze back to the view in front of her. Enjoyed seeing the sun starting to back to it’s place behind those mountains miles away. Admired the shade of orange and pink and slightly blue sky.

“Nothing that concern you.” She finally answered. She closed her eyes when the starting to get cold wind hit her face smoothly. Her blonde hair waved a little. She didn’t mean to be rude. But the words split just like that. And she was a bit too careless to apologize to the stranger right now. It’s not that he will be offended anyway, she thought.

The said boy from under the tree frowned. Didn’t technically expect a longer and nicer answer from her but the hint of tiredness in her voice got him even more curious and worried, a bit.

“Are you gonna wait until the sun disappeared? If so, I’ll be right down here when you finished.” He shouted at the girl. Finally let himself sit under the tree and tried to make himself comfortable. He could sense the girl above him glared at him.

“What do you want?” Her voice filled with annoyance. What is this guy up to? She didn’t need another stubborn person (she was pretty sure that this boy is not gonna be an easy case) to deal with. Today was tiring enough for her. And she just wanted to end it and be an anti-social for the rest of the night.

“It seems like you need someone to talk to. And I’m too kind to not care about it.” He said while slowly closing his eyes, arms crossed on his chest, and inhaled deeply. Exhaled slowly. It was really starting to get cold.

The girl scoffed, “No, I don’t need your generousty. I’m done talking with people. Go away.”. Now she wasn’t that interested to watch th sun goes down anymore. The boy down there disturbed her time and all she wanted to do is to make him leave her alone.

The brunette boy hummed, still with eyes closed, “But you look like you need to spill everything off of your chest. And as a generous person like you said, I’m willing myself to listen to your worries.”

The girl let out a tiny scowl, “It’s not worries. And how could you see it. Your eyes are closed.”

“Oh, damn!” The boy groaned, and opened his eyes. “You’re right. How should I supposed to know if you didn’t tell me. Gee, you're saving my life.Thanks.” He sassed, and looked up to her. “Now I see you. And I know behind that sorrow and tired face of yours, you’re about to explode.” He stated in a matter-of-factly act.

The blonde girl rolled her eyes, 'What an smartass', she thought, didn’t understand herself for keeping up with this annoying stranger. She should’ve just ignored him. But she didn’t. She realized the she kind of needed that attention right now. People usually don’t even bother to ask her what’s happening, let alone sparing a glance. So a stranger came to her and talked like he knows everything about her was something new.

But he was still annoying no matter what.

"Just leave. Don't waste your time talking to me." She said softly, watching the brunette haired boy under the tree still didn't budge from his position. Made the girl sighed, giving up to make him leave and throw her gaze back to the sunset and the scenery underneath. They were far from crowds but she could see the road was filled with transportations. Traffic jam, a sight you would always find after-work hour. She could hear the sound of cars honking repeatedly, getting impatient due to tiredness and headache of the drivers. Pedestrians on the sidewalk fastened their pace to reach home earlier before the sky getting darker. Some couples walked slowly, enjoying their moment in the dusk and cold weather. Some guys walked in a suspicious way, and she didn't want to know what they want to do. It's not like she didn't know though. They were pretty obvious, but people were just too stupid to realize it.

"Do you like coffee?"

The girl glanced lazily at the brunette boy down there. It should be a peaceful moment for her. But a strange annoying boy just decided to show up from nowhere and disturb her only peaceful moment of the day.

"I like coffee. We should get some coffee sometime. What do you think?" He continued and glanced up at her, grinning widely, waiting in anticipation. Why is he so cheerful? Nothing is cheerful about this talk, she thought, still with her bored look. And the she scoffed.

"Why do you think I wanna meet you after this?" She smiled mockingly, little did hope that would annoy the boy. But the latter just grinned wider, this time looks happier, and that was much to her dislike.

"What?"

The brunette shrugged, "You smiled. That's a progress." He said, smiling at her.

The blonde's eyebrow twitched, clearly annoyed. "I'm not smiling." He retorted, shaking her head.

The boy chuckled in amusement, "Sure you didn't."

The girl glared at him, 'He's mocking at me.' she thought angrily.

"Bastard", she muttered to herself.

Realized that it started getting really dark, and the street lamp not far from their place has been turned on, the girl glanced back to the sunset.

It disappeared, she missed the chance to see the sunset fully disappeared. And that was upsetting.
The sky now was dark orange and the buildings and trees turned black from her sight. And that was her sign to get down from the tree before those night flying creatures begin to attack her pale skin.

The blonde girl sighed.

“You ruined my soothing date with my sunset.” She grumbled while climbing down from the tree easily, fearlessly. She could’ve jumped anyway, like she usually does. But didn’t want to risk stepping on the poor brunette down there. And it would be embarrassing if that ever happened.

The brunette himself watched her in amusement. Wondering since when she started to climb up that tree and having her ‘soothing date’ with the sunset.

“’My sunset?’ How cute.” The boy said, smirking when the girl hopped on the ground successfully.
She fixed her clothes before turned her head towards him, took her chance to look at him closely. And she couldn’t stop herself from gaping a little (she inwardly cursed herself from doing so) when she saw the undeniably attractive face in front of her.

He looks her age. But he has mature features. Like his hair, he has a pair of beautiful brown eyes. Attractive eyebrows. Kinda big nose, but it looks cute somehow. Thin lips, a bit chapped but still look soft. Gaunt cheeks and sharp jaws that could cut glass just by looking at it. In short, he’s handsome. Even with the dirts on his face and those ugly clothes.

I’m pretty sure he has such an annoying face when I saw him from up there”, she thought.

When she saw the brunette boy grinning widely (which is look so cute), she snapped back from her thought and looked away, embarassed from being caught up staring at him. Damn it.

“My sunset. Not yours”, She claimed childishly, taking her bag from the ground with her and started walk away fast from him. He heard the boy chuckled, following by the sound of footsteps behind her.

“Okay~ your sunset. But hey, come on. Are you gonna leave just like that? We should talk, you know? I’ve waited for you and your sunset soothing date to end, remember?” He said teasingly, she could sense that he was still grinning widely.

“I didn’t ask you to wait. You decided yourself. And we have nothing to talk about. I’ve said that’m done talking with people today.” The blonde girl scowled when the latter easily matched his step with the girl.

“So I can talk to you tomorrow?” The brunette asked cheerfully, eyes shone lightly like a little kid getting his favorite candy from candy machine. It almost look adorable. And she hated herself for thinking that way.

"No." She replied harshly. Stepped up her pace to avoid the brunette boy, but it was hard since the boy has such long legs to get easily match her pace.

"Aww.. don't be like that. It's nice having a friend to talk with, you know. Come on, I'll treat you coffee. We can find a good place for coffee around here. How's that sound?" The boy insisted.

She huffed before stopped walking and faced  the still grinning  handsome brunette guy.
‘Stop that...’ She shook her head slightly.

“Seriously what do you want? Why are you so eager to talk to me? What do you want me to tell you? Wanna know my worries? I have none! And even if I have one, I’m not going to just tell it to any stranger like you. You’re curious about me? You have nothing to be curious about. I’m nothing special. You want a friend to talk with? Find another person. A same cheerful annoying person like you. I’m dating a sunset. I’m boring. I have no wonderful stories to share with you. You got it?!”

She didn’t know what has gotten into her. She just suddenly got so worked up over this brunette boy and the next thing she did was shouting at him. Let out all of her annoyance towards him. And now she was panting, hands slightly shaking, cheeks flushed, chest rose up and down. What had just happened?

The tall boy smiled at her, and it was warm. She frowned at that, didn’t get the reason of him smiling like that.

“What?”

“Shout. Shout again. It does make you feel better, right?” The latter replied, still smiling.

The blonde girl stunned. This is what he wanted her to do? Shout? Shout, spit it all out to make her feel better? She did feel better. She felt relieved, somehow. It was like the burden on her shoulders finally loosen up a bit. It felt good. The shouting, she meant. But never in her life she would want to admit it to the boy in front of her.
After a few moments of staring at each other, she  let out a tired sigh and shook her head, looking away from him.

“Stop being such an smartass. I’m not doing it. Tired talking with you.” She said as she turned around and walked away, going home. Or the supposed-to-be-called-home place.

“Okay, tomorrow it is!” She heard the brunette said from behind her. She ignored it.

“I’LL BE HERE TOMORROW. AND YOU’LL BE HERE WHEN IM ARRIVED, OKAY?” The boy shouted at her as she was getting further and slowly disappeared from his sight.

The girl promised to herself to find another place, another tree, to date with her sunset, where the handsome brunette boy wouldn’t find her. But deep inside her heart, she wasn’t sure about wanting to find another place.

She kept thinking about the brunette boy the entire night that day.
